Thats what I do. I'll do the first one before, but save the 2nd bar clearing until I've got that challenge active. I like trying to figure out the most efficient ways to get challenges done as early as possible. Just yesterday I got both horseman 8 and sharpshooter 7 in a single attack on the klan meeting.

Find an enemy camp/hideout, wait for an enemy red dot. Equip tomahawk and keep walking back till no targeting red dot, then creep in. Aim high. Another option is hogtie someone, walk back till you can barely target them. For these challenges they have to be a red dot on the minimap to count as an enemy. Bandits and Gang camps.
