Nickel finish was fairly common on model 19s, but if it looked good shape when you bought and is now flaking I`d consider it suspect. But there are some kinds of cleaning solvents that are hard on nickel finish.Greetings all, I have been trying to research the age of a Model 28, and was wondering if anyone could help me out here. As Ed points out, the model 60 is essentially a stainless version of the Chiefs Special. It was the first stainlss steel production revolver made and was introduced in 1965. The "no dash" models were made from 1965 to 1972. R prefix serial numbered guns began in 1969. The 60-1 marked guns started in 1972.No dashes anywhere and no prefix letter on the serial #. This Mod 60 has a 2' barrel. Finally called S&W and the lady confused me even more. She said it was manufactured in 1962. However on many forums I have read that S&W did not start this model until 1965.
